3 Frequently Asked Questions About Dumpster Rentals

Dec 19, 2022
Whether you're planning a home renovation project or your business is having construction done, you'll need a dumpster rental to properly dispose of the waste. However, many people don't know how to find a dumpster rental service, the size they'll need, or the different rules that come with renting a dumpster. That's why we've provided you with the ultimate rental guide! Here's everything you need to know to get started.

How Do I Choose the Right Company?

To start your search for the right company, look locally. Companies may charge extra if they have to drive an especially long distance to drop off and pick up the dumpster. Next, you'll want to ask for recommendations in your community. Whether it's a friend, family member, or another business, the chances are that you know someone who's had to rent a dumpster before. They'll be able to recommend companies that have good prices and fair rules.

The internet is another great resource when looking for recommendations. Read reviews and testimonials from people who've used the company in the past before you decide to hire them. You'll also want price quotes from various companies, which can make it clear which companies may be overcharging. Lastly, read the contract. Many rules for dumpster rentals are standard but it's always wise to look for any that seem out of place. Look at their penalties for breaking rules or extending your rental, just in case. You'll want to know how much money it'll cost should you need the rental for a few more days than expected or if you go over the weight limit. The most important part of this process is to familiarize yourself with their rules so you can be prepared for anything that happens during the process.

What Size Do I Need?

Dumpster rentals come in many sizes so you can choose one that will best fit your needs. Here are the most common sizes and how to choose between them.

10 Cubic Yards

A 10-cubic-yard dumpster is typically the smallest you'll find and is equivalent to the size of about two or three pickup trucks. This makes them perfect for smaller jobs like a small clean-out of an attic, shed, basement, or garage. They're also good for small renovation projects, such as a bathroom. If you're re-roofing a shed or working on minor roof repairs for the house, this is the size that's recommended.

20 Cubic Yards

A 20-cubic-yard dumpster is as large as four or five pickup trucks, so they're also commonly used for home renovations and seasonal clean-outs. This can still only be used for smaller projects like a kitchen remodel, but that also depends on the scope of your project. If your seasonal clean-out is bigger than a small shed, then you'll want to invest in this sized dumpster. Also, if you're planning a carpet removal, flooring project, or roofing project, 20 cubic yards will do the trick.

30 Cubic Yards

A 30-cubic-yard dumpster has as much space as about six to seven pickup trucks, which makes them perfect for large clean-outs and renovations. This size is right if furniture is being thrown out and it can handle a small to medium amount of demolition debris. If you're planning a demolition, this size is the minimum of what you'll need.

40 Cubic Yards

This is the largest dumpster you'll find, which is equivalent to about eight to nine pickup trucks. This means it will work for any project, including full clean-outs, demolition and construction, and any other large-scale endeavor. This is typically the recommended size for new home or office construction waste disposal.

How Much Will it Cost?

According to Home Advisor, the average cost of a dumpster rental nationwide is $380 with typical weekly prices ranging between $200 to $800. There are two primary factors that will affect the price of your dumpster rental: size and weight. If you're unsure of the size you need, it's recommended that you round up. That way, you'll have more space for waste if you need it. Renting two 10-cubic-yard dumpsters will always be more expensive than one 20-cubic-yard dumpster. The weight of debris will also be a factor. The service you choose will give you a weight allowance and you'll have to pay extra if you exceed that amount. Your weight allowance and penalty cost should both be stated in your contract.

It's smart to discuss your project need with the company you're renting from. Their expertise will help you determine which dumpster you need. Call AAA Carting today for help getting started. We look forward to working with you.
